Bafra

What's waiting for you

Bafra is the North's planned tourism zone: a handful of very large, ultra all-inclusive resorts with casinos, dropped onto kilometres of empty coastline. There is no town here, and that is entirely the point. You come for the beach, the resort and the quiet.

It is also the doorstep of the Karpaz peninsula — wild donkeys, Golden Beach, and the Apostolos Andreas monastery out at the tip. If you are staying a week, give one day to the Karpaz.

A note on names, because the listings get this wrong: Kaya Artemis is in Bafra, not in Famagusta city, even though booking sites file it under Famagusta district. And Kaya Palazzo's Bafra project is still under construction — the group's working hotels are Kaya Artemis here and Kaya Palazzo in Kyrenia.

The longest run, and the emptiest coast

Bafra is the north's planned tourism zone: a handful of very large resorts with casinos, placed on kilometres of otherwise empty coastline at the foot of the Karpaz peninsula. At roughly 93 km it is the longest transfer we do from Larnaca.

The distance is honest work rather than difficulty — the crossing at Deryneia or Beyarmudu comes early, and the rest is a steady coastal run east and then north. It is the leg where flight tracking earns its keep, because there is nothing at the far end to improvise with.

There is no town here — and that is the design

Unlike Kyrenia or Famagusta, Bafra has no old centre, no harbour and no high street. The resorts are ultra all-inclusive and self-contained: restaurants, pools, spa, entertainment and casino inside the property, because there is very little outside it.

That suits people who came to stay put, and it catches out people who assumed they would wander into town. If you plan to see the Karpaz peninsula or Apostolos Andreas at the tip, treat it as a booked day trip rather than something you stumble into.

Worth your afternoon

The Bafra shoreline

Long, quiet, undeveloped sand — the reason the resorts were built exactly here.

The Karpaz Peninsula

Wild donkeys, Golden Beach, and almost nothing else. The emptiest, loveliest corner of Cyprus.

Apostolos Andreas Monastery

At the very tip of the peninsula, restored and reopened. A long drive that people rarely regret.

Salamis

The ancient city on the coast north of Famagusta — a gymnasium, a theatre and a Roman bath complex, right beside the sea.

Questions about this route

How much does a taxi from Larnaca Airport to Bafra cost?
A private transfer on this route starts from £100 per vehicle (up to 6 guests), not per person. Send us your hotel, the number of guests and your flight on WhatsApp and we confirm the exact price before you book — no hidden fees.
Why is Bafra the longest transfer?
It sits furthest east and north, at the base of the Karpaz peninsula — about 93 km from Larnaca Airport, or 80–105 minutes of driving plus the crossing.
Is there anywhere to eat outside the resorts?
Very little. Bafra is a purpose-built resort strip with no town attached, which is why the hotels are ultra all-inclusive. Plan on eating in the property unless you have arranged transport.
Can you take us to the Karpaz peninsula?
Yes — Bafra is the closest resort area to it, and Apostolos Andreas sits at the tip. It is a full day out rather than a short hop, so it is booked as its own journey.
