What's waiting for you
Bafra is the North's planned tourism zone: a handful of very large, ultra all-inclusive resorts with casinos, dropped onto kilometres of empty coastline. There is no town here, and that is entirely the point. You come for the beach, the resort and the quiet.
It is also the doorstep of the Karpaz peninsula — wild donkeys, Golden Beach, and the Apostolos Andreas monastery out at the tip. If you are staying a week, give one day to the Karpaz.
A note on names, because the listings get this wrong: Kaya Artemis is in Bafra, not in Famagusta city, even though booking sites file it under Famagusta district. And Kaya Palazzo's Bafra project is still under construction — the group's working hotels are Kaya Artemis here and Kaya Palazzo in Kyrenia.

Worth your afternoon
The Bafra shoreline
Long, quiet, undeveloped sand — the reason the resorts were built exactly here.
The Karpaz Peninsula
Wild donkeys, Golden Beach, and almost nothing else. The emptiest, loveliest corner of Cyprus.
Apostolos Andreas Monastery
At the very tip of the peninsula, restored and reopened. A long drive that people rarely regret.
Salamis
The ancient city on the coast north of Famagusta — a gymnasium, a theatre and a Roman bath complex, right beside the sea.
