What's waiting for you
North Nicosia is not a beach town and does not pretend to be. It is the administrative and commercial heart of the North: the walled old city, the Selimiye Mosque, Büyük Han, and the Dereboyu strip where the city eats and drinks.
The drive from Larnaca is the shortest of our routes. You reach the southern side of the city in well under an hour; the Metehan checkpoint sits on the western edge of town, and the northern hotels are minutes beyond it. Note that the famous Ledra / Lokmacı crossing in the middle of the old city is pedestrian only — vehicles cross at Metehan.
Kyrenia is about twenty-five minutes further on, which makes Nicosia a comfortable base if you are here for business rather than the sea.
The shortest run we do — with one catch
On distance alone, North Nicosia is the closest destination in the north: a straight motorway shot of about 50 km from the airport. The catch is that the city is divided, and your hotel is on the far side of the line. So the journey is short, but it ends with a checkpoint rather than a street.
Vehicles use Metehan. The famous Ledra Street crossing in the middle of the old city is pedestrians only — worth knowing if you have read about it and assumed a car can follow the same route. It cannot.
A working city, not a resort
Most people we drive to Nicosia are here for something specific: a meeting, a university, a government office, a hospital appointment. The northern half is the administrative and commercial centre — the walled old city with the Selimiye Mosque and Büyük Han, and the modern Dereboyu strip where most of the restaurants are.
The hotel list is short by design; this is not a beach destination and it does not pretend to be. If you are arriving for a fixed appointment, give us the time you need to be there and we will work backwards from it rather than from the flight.

Selimiye Mosque
A French Gothic cathedral, built in the 13th century, that became a mosque in 1570. The most striking building in the old city.

A restored Ottoman caravanserai, now a courtyard of craft workshops and a very good place to stop for coffee.
