Ercan is North Cyprus's own airport, so a transfer to Kyrenia never touches the Green Line. That removes the single biggest variable from the journey: no checkpoint, no passport stop, no queue to plan around. Forty to fifty minutes, and you are at the harbour.
The trade-off is on the flying, not the driving. Flights to Ercan route through Turkey; Larnaca is served directly from most of Europe. Which airport is right for you depends on where you are flying from — we wrote a guide comparing the two.
Whichever you choose, the vehicle and the welcome are the same: a name board at arrivals and one VIP Vito to your door.
The version of this journey with no border in it
Ercan is in the north, so a transfer to Kyrenia never touches the Green Line. That removes the single largest variable from the whole trip: no checkpoint, no passport stop, no queue that might be two minutes or twenty. What is left is a short, predictable drive of 41–43 km, most of it on open road.
It is the calmest arrival we do, and if you are travelling with small children or a lot of luggage, that matters more than the distance saved.
The trade-off happens before you land
The reason most of our guests still arrive at Larnaca is not the drive — it is the flight. Services into Ercan route via Turkey, so for passengers coming from Europe, Russia or Israel the shorter transfer is usually paid for with a longer journey and a connection.
Neither answer is right for everyone: if you are already flying from or through Turkey, Ercan is clearly the easier arrival. We set out both sides properly rather than pushing the one that suits us — and we meet flights at both.

Kyrenia Castle
A Byzantine and Venetian fortress guarding the harbour, with the Shipwreck Museum and its 2,300-year-old trading vessel inside.
